Microtransit Pilot Project: A flexible, shared-ride service

Washington County and Ride Connection are studying microtransit transportation as a possible way to meet local travel needs in Southwest Beaverton (South Cooper Mountain, Progress Ridge) and River Terrace in the City of Tigard area, including the Mountainside High School attendance area.

  • Microtransit is an on-demand public transportation service that provides trips within a designated service area.
  • You can book a trip using a smartphone app, website or by calling a dispatcher.
  • Select when and where you would like to be picked up and dropped off, either within the service area or at the TriMet hub.
  • Pick-up is typically available within minutes at your location or at a nearby street corner.
  • Rides are shared, so you may be grouped with other customers traveling in a similar direction.
  • Microtransit uses vehicles smaller than a TriMet bus, typically multi-passenger vans, that have bicycle racks and are wheelchair accessible.
  • Ride Connection drivers receive training and credentials in compliance with federal and state transportation regulations, including specialized training to ensure the safe transport of riders using mobility devices.

"A picture explanation to use microtransit by requesting rid by app or phone; getting picked up for your ride; other may be picked up or dropped off on the way; and you arrive at your destination.""Microtransit will help get people from one place to another within their local community and provide access to a nearby TriMet hub to connect to other destinations in Washington County and beyond. This service is free of charge.

The service will begin operating in early 2026 and continue for up to 18 months. We are considering hours of operation based on community feedback and available funding.
