Washington County and Ride Connection’s Microtransit Pilot Project will expand public transportation options in the Southwest Beaverton and River Terrace areas.

What is microtransit?
Microtransit is a flexible shared-ride shuttle service. It will pick up riders at their preferred location and transport them to schools, jobs, shopping, medical appointments, frequent TriMet services or other destinations within a specified service zone. You may have other riders in the vehicle with you for parts or all your trips. The exact route to your destination may vary based on where other riders need to stop along the way.

A novel solution
Microtransit fills gaps in larger public transit systems in areas where no other service is available, opening up the transit network for riders. In places where existing transit is just out of reach, microtransit can provide the first or last mile(s) of service that covers the distance between the transit stop and your initial or final destination. In addition, microtransit can demonstrate the need for transit in a community which may eventually justify standard bus service.

About Ride Connection
Ride Connection is a non-profit public transportation provider that contracts with the County to fill gaps in transit service, offering transportation options to meet the needs of older adults and people with disabilities in addition to low-income individuals and the general public.

In Washington County, Ride Connection operates seven different Community Connector shuttles and limited rural door-to-door services. These services are all free to the public. They are funded in part by locally prioritized employee payroll taxes.

Together Washington County and Ride Connection help meet the travel needs of our community by developing a coordinated vision for transit service. Learn more about Ride Connection
